Assembly of God
Location:
Griffin, GA
Architect:

Project:
With seating for nearly 2000 in the prayer hall (including almost 600 seats in the balcony) and a total of almost 80,000 square feet, AOG is a large and thriving church. Even so, the Prayer Hall structural design with clear truss spans of 180 feet was completed with future expansion in mind. Extra capacity is available to extend both sides of the Prayer Hall, and to add several rows of seating to the balcony. PEC’s design delivered the desired architectural configuration for this beautiful church for the present, but still allows for expansion with minimal operational disruptions for the future.
BAPS Hindu Temple

Project:
This Hindu temple is such an extraordinary building that a few lines can’t possibly do it justice. Our best advice is simply this: visit. Among other impressive facts: The foundation is an unreinforced (!) concrete mat 3’-6” thick. The foundation concrete mix includes 60% type F fly ash and uses no more cement than a 3500 psi mix, but developed 10,000 psi compressive strength at 180 days and weighs more than 190 pcf. Most astounding, the design life expectancy is 10 centuries - yes, 1000 years.
Catholic Church of St. Ann

Project:
The original nave at St. Ann’s is an impressive vaulted octagon with glu-laminated arches. The new expansion adds a vaulted, glu-laminated narthex with soaring arched steel entry windows, two steel, concrete and fiberglass steeples to 60’ tall, extends the octagon to create new social and gathering spaces, adds a cantilevered balcony with curved support timbers, and connects the new narthex to the parish hall with a covered walk of intersecting glu-lam arches.
Salvation Army Worship and Family Activity Center
Location:
Atlanta, GA
Architect:
Pope Partners Architects
Project:
Although the vaulted sanctuary framed with a structural steel and bar joist roof with a structural steel balcony is impressive, there is much more to this facility than just the worship space. The project includes classroom and office spaces for the school component, and a basketball / volleyball gymnasium with a suspended oval running and walking track and a racquet ball court for the fitness component.
Stockbridge First United Methodist Church
Location:
Stockbridge, GA
Architect:
Sizemore Group
Project:
This project combines a new two story Sanctuary building with a second floor addition to the existing facility. PEC’s design used conventional steel framing including 96” deep joist girders and special details to accommodate movement from horizontal thrust to create 10,000 square feet of column free space with an 18’ eave height and 30’ clear ceilings at the main ridge. We also reinforced existing foundations and framing and upgraded lateral bracing for an adjacent existing one story building to add a second floor of classrooms on the old roof. The end result was featured in Building Design and Construction Magazine in 2005.
