Location:
Decatur, GA
Architect:
The Facility Design Group
Project:
A state of the art $38M facility with 6 court rooms, 6 class rooms, inmate intake and detention and all support spaces in 110,000 square feet on five levels.  Reinforced concrete pile caps on auger cast concrete piles support the building structure, a reinforced concrete moment frame with post-tensioned girders, conventionally reinforced beams, and skip joists.  Finishes of brick, precast concrete, and metal panel veneer on the outside, with a two story domed entry vestibule on the inside complete the architectural package.

Fire Station #2

Location:
Decatur, GA
Architect:
LP3
Project:
The all new Fire Station #2 currently in design for the City of Decatur is a two story fire house with two apparatus bays, living quarters, offices, and all appropriate support spaces.  PEC’s structural design incorporates reinforced masonry, reinforced concrete, structural steel and bar joist floor and roof framing, and aluminum tube framing with glass panels for entry and shade awnings and for the two story signature tower.  The finished structure will create a clean, modern look with a clear presence but without clashing with the surrounding neighborhood.

Monroe High School

Location:
Monroe, GA
Architect:
The Facility Design Group
Project:
PEC’s design, drawings and details for this state of the art Walton County high school include many interesting structural challenges and solutions, and we’d be happy to tell you all about them.  But probably the detail that we are most proud of on this 180,000 square feet, $27M dollar school is the fact that the top three contractors submitted bids separated by less than $3,000.  Plus, the students love it (as much as high school kids ever do).

Toco Hills Library

Location:
Decatur, GA
Architect:
Houser Walker Architecture
Project:
At Toco Hills, Houser Walker is blending expressed structural elements with crisp architectural details to create a modern, functional and inviting new community library. The structural system combines exposed wood and steel roof trusses, structural steel moment frames with glass storefront windows, and reinforced concrete floor to separate the main library space from covered parking below.

Twin Creeks Science Center

Location:
Atlanta, GA
Architect:
Lord, Aeck & Sargent Architects
Project:
Nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Twin Creeks is an entymological research center and teaching facility - better known as the bug lab. School kids with an eye for structure will appreciate the variety of wood framing throughout. Twin Creeks incorporates conventional stick framing, preengineered wood trusses, wood I joists and engineered wood beams, but the centerpiece is a series of intersecting, vaulted timber trusses with a structural insulated panel skin.
